♦Introduction
The Program of Master Degree in Professional Education for Teaching (the Program and so forth) is established in 2012. It is planned to accomplish the courses from university to Master degree in six years. The courses are arranged to fulfill the requirement of the multiple-subjects teaching (also named as subjects-packaged teaching) profession in elementary schools. We particularly expect ourselves to cultivate the competent teachers in class management and administration to serve all needs of education in rural areas.
♦The Characteristics of Beliefs
The core beliefs of the Program are based on four aspects, i.e., “expanding the culture of the traditional teaching principles, cultivating the visions of being a teacher, deepening the teaching practices, and leading the renovation of education”. Therefore, it is expected to develop teachers qualified with the characteristics of “educational love, devoted heart, and teaching capability”. The axis of the courses is oriented by the research-based courses reflecting the practices. Receiving the courses combined by the theories and practices as well as diverse and refining educational activities, a new-era competent teacher is born by the new perspectives of teacher education.
♦The Characteristics of Courses
The teacher students are required to live in school dormitory collectively. The purpose of doing so is to breed their morale of team work and the habits of cooperation. In order to close to the needs of educational frontiers, the first semester of second grade in Master course, teacher students are arranged to do the local researches in elementary schools in different counties for three months. For upgrading the basic capabilities of the multiple- subjects teaching, the program arranges many workshops, for example, the skills of playing piano, calligraphy, hand writing on blackboard, story-telling and performing arts. Moreover, the program also arranges many activities in night time , summer and winter vocation, such as Chinese martial arts, Taijiquan exercises, Reading Chinese classics, exercise walking, dancing, etc.
Associated with the professional developing schools, the program offers the teacher students the apprenticeship model of clinical guidance by experienced mentors through mutual observation and discussion. The program emphasizes on the positive characters and attitudes of teacher students. They have to serve as volunteers to help children’s school works in rural areas because they are expected to be active and helpful in team work.
♦The Career Perspectives
Since the teacher students of the Program are funded by government, after graduation, they are mainly assigned to elementary schools in rural areas all over the nation. For their future career perspectives, on the one hand, they can upgrade step by step in school administration; on the other hand, they also can pursue the Ph. D. degree for doing educational researches.
