♦Introduction
The Department of Education began in 1987, formerly known as the Department of Elementary Education, with the main goal of preparing qualified elementary school teachers, administrators, and counselors. In 1992, a master’s program,Graduate Institute of Education, was established individually. A doctoral program for advanced study in education was further added to this institute at the year of 2000. In 2004, the department and institute were merged together and renamed to the Department of National Education based on the university policy. This department was soon renamed as the Department of Education in 2006. To be able to offer a wide range of master’s and doctoral programs, the Department and the Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction were integrated in 2011.

The Department of Education now provides programs of undergraduate preparation for students to enter educational careers in schools and other educational related agencies; master’s level work to enhance professional skills and knowledge in education fields; and doctoral level work to develop competence as a research scholar. In addition, the department provides a practical master’s program for inservice school teachers, directors, and principals to enhance their professional development. The graduate program focuses on 3 areas of research:

1. General Education (master’s and doctoral)
2. Curriculum and Instruction (master’s)
3. Educational Administration and Management (master’s)

The mission of the department is to cultivate and train students to be professional educators. The department aims to create, evaluate exchange, and advance knowledge of,and professional practice in, teaching and learning. The mission is discharged through faculty activities in teaching, public service, and scholarship.

These functions should not be seen as separate and apart, but interdependent in the sense that excellence in any one area of education field depends upon excellent in the other two.

The students who graduated from the department could find their career in various fields, such as:

1.Being school teachers, administrators and principals.
2.Becoming officers in the education related governmental services.
3.Continuing advanced studies for master’s and doctoral program and becoming education researchers
4.Being teachers in the afterschool programs
5.Participating the in-services training program in some entrepreneurships or human resources related agencies.
